Meet Dr. Truong!

Board-certified pediatric specialist. Forever-kid at heart.

Dr. Kurt Truong, board-certified pediatric dentist at Pleasant Valley Pediatric Dentistry
“The best toothbrush in the world
is the one you use.”
— Dr. Kurt Truong

Dr. Truong trained at the University of Washington and Riley Hospital for Children in Indiana, then spent years caring for kids in rural Arizona and New Mexico, where many families had never had easy access to a specialist.

Now back in Washington, Dr. Truong built Pleasant Valley around the kind of care every child deserves: calm rooms, patient explanations, a multilingual team, and a chair made for first teeth, teen smiles, and every nervous kid in between.

Four little rules for happier dental visits

Big feelings welcome.

Nerves, tears, shy days, chatty days. We meet your child where they are, with calm rooms, kid-sized explanations, and support for children with sensory needs.

Insurance should not feel like a maze.

We accept plans including Delta Dental, Aetna, Cigna, MetLife, United Healthcare, and Washington State Medicaid (Apple Health). Between coverage? Ask about our $150 flat rate for an exam, x-rays, cleaning, and fluoride.

No surprises in the chair.

When a child feels nervous, we use Tell-Show-Do: each tool gets a nickname and a demo, and we walk them through each step, with a countdown when needed. Parents leave knowing what happened, what didn’t, and what comes next.

Your language belongs here.

Our team supports families in English, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Mandarin Chinese, and Korean, so you can understand your child’s care in the language your family is most comfortable in.

Meet our mascot crew

Black bears are native to this part of Washington, making them a natural mascot for the little cubs growing up here.

Meet Patty, our big black bear. Patty can be mom, dad, grandma, or whoever is bringing your little one in. Her baby bears, Berry and Hubert, are playing on a log nearby, along with Speedy the squirrel. There's a hollow log kids can crawl through, too.

A pediatric dental visit should feel more like an adventure and less like something to worry about.

What we do for growing smiles

Keep small teeth healthy from the start

Cleanings, exams, fluoride, and gentle first visits help your child build healthy habits early. Babies can start with lap-to-lap visits until they’re ready for the chair.

Prevent cavities before they become bigger problems

Sealants, fluoride, and silver diamine fluoride help stop cavities early, so your child can avoid more drilling later.

Protect baby teeth with natural-looking crowns

When a baby tooth needs more than a filling, we offer white zirconia crowns and stainless-steel crowns, then explain which option fits best.

Special Needs Care

We keep it cozy and kind

First visit?

Tiny smiles set
the pace

First time in the chair? We keep it gentle, curious, and low-pressure. Your child can look around, ask questions, and warm up one small step at a time.

Extra help for
nervous cubs

If your child feels nervous, we use Tell-Show-Do: each tool gets a kid-friendly explanation and a quick demo. We walk them through each step, with a countdown when needed.

Little comforts for
brave cubs

Stickers, small toys, sensory baskets, and a calming room help kids find their bravery. For grown-ups, we have water ready while you wait, and coffee available upon request.

Insurance, costs, and no-surprise visits

Tiny teeth should not
come with mystery math

We accept Delta Dental PPO and Premier, Aetna, Ameritas, Anthem, Assurant, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Guardian, MetLife, Principal, Sun Life Financial, The Standard, United Concordia, United Healthcare, and Washington State Medicaid (Apple Health). Our team will help you understand what is covered before treatment begins.

Between coverage? Ask about our $150 flat rate for an exam, x-rays, cleaning, and fluoride, so your child can still be seen without the guesswork.

Not sure about a treatment plan from another office? We offer second opinions, because parents deserve clear answers before making big decisions.

Questions
Vancouver
parents ask us

By their first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth coming in. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends it, and early visits are mostly about prevention and comfort — for babies, that’s a lap-to-lap exam with you holding them the whole time.

A pediatric dentist completes two to three years of training beyond dental school, focused entirely on children — their growth, development, and behavior in the chair. Dr. Truong is board-certified and has spent his career caring only for kids, which is what lets us manage a nervous four-year-old and a teenager on the same afternoon.

We accept Delta Dental PPO and Premier, Aetna, Ameritas, Anthem, Assurant, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Guardian, MetLife, Principal, Sun Life Financial, The Standard, United Concordia, United Healthcare, and Washington State Medicaid (Apple Health). Our team will help you understand what your plan covers before treatment begins.

We start with the Tell-Show-Do method and a sensory basket, which is enough for most kids. When it isn’t, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and, for longer or more complex care, general anesthesia — matched to what your child needs.

In most cases, yes. We keep sensory kits on hand, can accommodate patients who need to stay in a wheelchair, and have staff experienced with autistic children and kids of varying abilities. Call us with the specifics, and we’ll tell you honestly what we can do.

English, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Mandarin Chinese, and Korean. You’ll get your child’s diagnosis and care plan explained in the language your family is most comfortable in.

Someone from our team is on call by phone 24/7. We can’t always treat at midnight, but we can tell you whether it’s a wait-until-morning situation or an ER trip — and we see urgent cases the same day when possible, first-time patients included.

Both. We offer tooth-colored zirconia crowns as well as stainless-steel crowns, and we’ll recommend the one that fits your child’s tooth, age, and situation. Roughly 1 in 5 kids will have had a cavity in a baby tooth by kindergarten, so crowns are more common than parents expect.

Bring your kid,
we’ll make it easy

New patients are welcome, whether it’s a first visit, a brave return, or a tooth that needs help fast. We’ll make the next step feel clear, calm, and kid-sized.
